Track & Field Claims Two Event Victories, 14 Top-5 Finishes At Bison Opener

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> Saint Francis track & field opened up the indoor season at the Bison Opener hosted by Bucknell University at Gerhard Fieldhouse on Saturday.

>> The Red Flash combined for 14 top-5 finishes and two event victories in the season-opening meet.

>> Olivia Renk in her first collegiate meet claimed first in the 200m with a time of 25.60. She also took sixth in the 60m with a time of 7.71. The freshman has made her place into the history books as well, with her times putting her eighth and fifth all-time in Saint Francis indoor track & field history. 

>> Julian Saunders finished first in the 200m with a time 22.12. The senior now has 16 first place finishes in his career. He also tied for second in the 60m with a time of 6.84, the third-best time in the event in school history.

FLASH WOMEN NUGGETS
Along with Renk's win in the 200m, the women's team rounded out the day with six top-5 finishes overall.

Two athletes finished in the top-5 in two events. Mariclare Anderson made her mark by claiming second in the mile (5:20.26) and 500m (1:20.16). In the jumps, Brooke Long took third in the triple jump (11.29m) and fourth in the long jump (5.41m). Long's performance in the triple jump is the seventh-best mark all-time in the event.

Gabriella del Pielago was the second top-5 finisher in the 200m, placing fourth with a time of 26.43.

Carly Sedun started out her senior season with a mark of 16.30m in weight throw, good for eighth all-time in school history.

Six athletes made their collegiate debut. Aubrie Wells began her collegiate career with a 3.35 mark in pole vault, which is the eighth-best mark in the Saint Francis history books.

FLASH MEN NUGGETS
Saunders' 200m victory and second place finish in the 60m was a part of eight top-5 performances for the men's team. 

Four freshmen showed out in their first collegiate meet, and two made it onto the top-10 all-time performance lists. Jayden Foster (6.70m) and Joshuah Frazier (6.67m) placed second and fifth, respectively, in the long jump. Tyler Craft's third place finish in the triple jump (14.10m) moved him into 10th all-time in the event. Clark Gulycz took fourth in shot put with a mark of 16.21, which puts him into the seventh spot in the all-time shot put performances.

Fifteen athletes total competed in their first college meet on Saturday.

Joseph Sevison placed fifth in the weight throw with a mark of 16.26m.

Seamus Girdusky rounded out the top-5 finishers by taking fifth in the 400m dash with a time of 52.46.

NEXT UP FOR FLASH
The Red Flash will travel to the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y. to compete in the Wagner College Seahawk Shootout hosted by Wagner College on Dec. 13.
