Women’s Basketball Returns from Bye to Face Wagner

LORETTO, Pa. –
Saint Francis University women's basketball returns from a 12-day break between games on Thursday, Feb. 15 at Wagner for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
 
Saint Francis Quick Hits
Kendall Carruthers ranks fourth in the Northeast Conference with 15.7 points per game in conference play and fifth with 13.0 overall. She leads all NEC freshmen by 4.4 points per game overall. Carruthers also ranks sixth in the conference with 1.7 three-point field goals per game and seventh with 2.9. three-point field goal percentage. Julianna Gibson recorded the first double-double by a Red Flash player this season and the first of her career with 12 points and 11 rebounds last game against LIU. She paces Saint Francis with 5.3 rebounds per game, while Marina Artero leads the team with 6.1 per game in conference play. Kameryn Dorsey is tied for fourth in conference play with 3.3 assists per game and she leads NEC freshmen with 2.7 per game overall. Marissa Shelton has back-to-back double-digit scoring games and is 5-of-15 from three-point territory during the stretch.
 
Last Time Out
Saint Francis took a 61-56 victory over LIU ahead of its 12-day break between games. The Red Flash led 8-2 early in the game and held a 16-11 lead at the end of the first. In the second quarter, LIU outscored Saint Francis 16-6 and led 27-22 at the half. Saint Francis responded with a 13-8 run out of the half that tied the game at 35 with 2:27 remaining. Both teams traded points and were tied at 39 headed to the fourth. Tied at 43 with 7:02 remaining, Saint Francis went on a 7-2 run and took a 50-46 lead with 5:04 remaining in the game. Ahead by three, Saint Francis went on an 8-5 run and opened a 58-52 lead with 1:03 remaining. Saint Francis led by at least three the remainder of the game before its five-point victory. It was Saint Francis' first victory of the season when trailing at halftime.
 
Scouting Wagner
The Seahawks own a 6-15 overall and 3-6 conference record this season. Wagner is 2-2 in its last four games with victories over Central Connecticut and Stonehill. Semie Brar leads the team with 9.6 points per game, followed by Taleah Washington's 9.1. Washington also ranks second in the NEC with 3.6 assists per game. Kiera Edmonds is sixth in the conference with 6.1 rebounds per game. Wagner is seventh in the conference with 53.9 points per game.
 
All-Time vs. Wagner
Saint Francis holds a 50-28 all-time advantage over Wagner and snapped a six-game losing streak with a 64-54 defeat of the Seahawks this season. During the game, Gibson led active Red Flash players with 15 points, followed by Carruthers' 13. Washington scored a team-high 15 points for Wagner. Saint Francis holds a 20-17 record on the road against Wagner, but the Seahawks are on a current four-game winning streak while hosting the Red Flash.
 
Around the NEC
Sacred Heart (9-1) became the first team to clinch a spot in the NEC Tournament with a 58-53 victory over Central Connecticut (4-6). Le Moyne (8-2) defeated Stonehill (3-7) to remain second in the conference and drop the Skyhawks to a last-place tie. Merrimack (5-5) took a 68-51 victory over LIU (3-7) to also drop the Sharks into a last-place tie. FDU (6-3) remained third in the conference with a 62-53 victory over Wagner (3-6). In Thursday night action, LIU visits FDU, Stonehill visits Merrimack, Le Moyne visits Central Connecticut and Saint Francis visits Wagner.
