Men's Volleyball Takes First Match Against Charleston In A Sweep

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW 
>>Saint Francis men's volleyball picks up the straight set win over Charleston (28-26, 25-20, 25-20) in the first match of the weekend between the two teams.

>>Nathan Zini had another monstrous game, notching 15 kills and a season-high six service aces to lead the Red Flash offensively.

>>Peyton Blain tallied 17 digs as the anchor of a Saint Francis defense that held the Golden Eagles offense to 28 kills and a .160 hitting percentage, both season-lows.

TURNING POINT OF THE GAME 
The two squads faced off in a close set one where neither team had a lead over two points until the final serves. With Charleston holding a 24-21 lead, Saint Francis roared back with a 7-2 run and held off two match point opportunities from the Golden Eagles. Nathan Zini had four service aces in the opening set, including the set point to help the Red Flash take set one, 28-26.

The away team would ride that momentum through the next two sets, winning both of them to win the first match of the series.

FLASH MOMENTS
Saint Francis got out to a 13-4 lead in the second set, but Charleston would respond with a 14-5 run to make it as close as 19-18. With the potential comeback on the horizon, Michael Mosbacher and Nathan Zini combined for three kills to steer a 6-2 run as a response. Mosbacher's service ace for set point helped the Red Flash take set two, 25-20.

Set three was a back and forth affair, with both teams tied at eight in the opening serves. Saint Francis proceeded to score three straight points and would never give up the lead. The offense recorded a set-best .351 hitting percentage and 17 kills to guide the Red Flash to another 25-20 set win to take the match.

FLASH NUGGETS
So far in the 2024 season, all four of Saint Francis's wins have come in sweeps.

Andrew Deardorff and Michael Mosbacher aided the offense with eight kills apiece. Mosbacher tacked on four digs on the defensive side as well.

Ryan Parker contributed on both sides, tallying 35 assists and four digs.

In Elijah Lazor's first start since Jan.10, the sophomore had four kills on five attacks, two digs, and one block assisted.

The Red Flash have another match against Charleston Saturday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m.
