SELECT GAME NOTES VS. STONEHILLÂ (FULLÂ GAME NOTES PDF)
FRANKIES TIDBITS IN A FLASH
• Coming off its first bye of the year, Saint Francis will meet Stonehill for the first time this season on Saturday to be the final team the Red Flash will play.
• It marks the third meeting in the all-time series between the two teams in a series that started last year.
• Each team won on its home floor, with the Red Flash taking a 73-72 win in Loretto and the Skyhawks earning a 74-61 decision in Massachusetts.
• The classic Assistant Coach
Eric Taylor "one-point blowout" against Stonehill was the first of three NEC games, decided by a possession, while the team had four overall last season.
• Saint Francis has already played six games that were decided by a possession or less this season, tied for the most with the 2014-15 and 2019-20 seasons under head coach
Rob Krimmel.
• The team is 3-3 this season in one-possession games and was 5-1 in 2019-20 and 2-4 in 2014-15 in those situations.
• After playing four non-conference games by one possession, the Red Flash posted its first two games decided by three points or less in league play over the weekend. The Frankies lost by a point (63-62) at CCSU on February 1 and three points against LIU (70-67).
• Four games have happened on the road, and two have occurred at DeGol Arena, which is rare. The one-point loss at CCSU was only the fifth game decided by a point under Krimmel n the road. One-possession games are more evenly split, with 23 of the 52 on the road.
• With Stonehill coming to town and the two teams close in the standings, it is an excellent time to remind everyone that the top eight teams make the NEC Tournament, and every team is eligible to play in the postseason, which is different from the last several seasons.
• That means Le Moyne and Stonehill will participate in the NEC Tournament if they finish in the Top-8. Both teams are ineligible for the NCAA Tournament, so if both teams make the championship game, the NEC will stage an AQ game. If only one makes it to the title bout, the team it is facing will be the NEC representative in the NCAA Tournament.
• Krimmel is one win away from his 100th NEC regular season win. The 12th-year head coach recorded his first win as a head coach against the Blue Devils with a 67-60 win at DeGol Arena on January 3, 2013.
• With a win, Krimmel would become the 12th head coach in league history to reach 100 league regular season wins, joining Tom Green (FDU, 263), Howie Dickenman (CCSU, 187), Ron Ganulin (St. Francis Brooklyn 129), Dave Calloway (Monmouth, 127), Dave Magarity (Saint Francis/Marist, 117), Jim Phelan (Mount St. Mary's, 116), Glenn Braica (St. Francis Brooklyn, 116), Andrew Toole (Robert Morris, 115), Bashir Mason (Wagner, 111), Wayne Szoke (Monmouth, 109) and Dave Bike (Sacred Heart, 105).
• With a win on Saturday against Stonehill, Krimmel would win his 100th NEC game six years to the day of his 50th NEC win, which was at St. Francis Brooklyn on February 10, 2018. The win against the Terriers is the only milestone win to occur outside the state of Pennsylvania.
• All of his other milestone wins came in the Keystone State. Krimmel's first win was January 3, 2013 against CCSU, his 50th win was against Bryant on January 19, 2017, at DeGol Arena. His 100th and 150th did not happen at home but did occur in the state. He earned his 100th win at Saint Joseph's on November 30, 2019, and his 150th win at Lehigh on November 29, 2023.
• Krimmel won his 150th game on his second attempt at the milestone after falling to Niagara 69-61 four days before Lehigh. The game against Stonehill will be Krimmel's fourth attempt at the milestone.
• For some, the last four games have rekindled memories of Michigan's Fab Five after the Frankies started five freshmen.
• Before the game against Sacred Heart on January 25, the Frankies started four freshmen together for 10 consecutive games. Kentucky and Holy Cross are the other teams in the nation to start four newcomers in the same game.
• Coppin State has started six different freshmen this season, but three starting together has been the Eagles' max. Kentucky has called five freshman's names this season, but only four at a time.
• Coming into the season, four freshmen in the starting lineup was a program record. The last time the feat happened was against Mount St. Mary's on February 9, 2002.
• Saint Francis will conclude its two-game homestand against Wagner on Thursday for Norm Van Lier Night.
AN SFU WIN WOULD
• Be the 100th league win of head coach Rob Krimmel's career
• Be the second-straight win against Stonehill at home
• End a three-game losing streak
• Even the home record at 6-6 this season
LAST TIME OUT
• Saint Francis roared back with a 22-13 run to end the game, but CCSU made a free throw with 2:22 left to take the lead for good and set up a wild final several minutes of the game. The Blue Devils defeated the Red Flash, 63-62.
• Freshman
Carlos Lopez, Jr. paced the team by matching his career high of 22 points. Sophomore
Wisler Sanon II added a career-high 13 points and seven rebounds. Sanon had 10 of his 13 points in the final seven minutes of the game.
• Freshman
Eli Wilborn grew up in nearby Middletown, Conn., and he finished with nine points.
LAST TIME WE MET
• Saint Francis fell 70-67 at LIU on Saturday.
• Freshman
Bobby Rosenberger III paced the team with 16 points and six rebounds. Freshman
Carlos Lopez, Jr. registered 15 points, while fellow freshman
Eli Wilborn tallied 13 points, eight rebounds, four blocks, and two assists.
• Saint Francis finished 19-for-32 from the free throw line.
ABOUT THE SKYHAWKS
• Stonehill comes into the contest 3-22 overall and 1-9 in NEC play after falling 88-57 against Le Moyne in Massachusetts on Friday.
• Freshmen
Austin Abrams and
Louie Semona each had nine points off the bench for the Skyhawks against the Dolphins.
• Graduate student
Max Zegarowski and senior
Jackson Benigni pace the team with 12.0 points per game, while sophomore
Tony Felder is third with 11.8 points per game.
NORM VAN LIER NIGHT COMING
• Saint Francis will honor the legacy of Norm Van Lier and members of the Red Flash Golden Era during its game against Wagner on Thursday.
• The festivities will start with blessing the Golden Era plaques on the wall before DeGol Arena at 4:30 p.m. The Very Reverend President, Father Malachi Van Tassell, will bless the plaques, and Bob Moore (Class of 1969) will also give remarks during the ceremony.
• Before the game, there will be an on-court ceremony at 6:40 p.m., and then the Red Flash will take on the Seahawks at 7 p.m. During the pregame ceremony, there will be a video tribute, and members of the Golden Era in attendance at the game will be recognized. Additional tributes will occur throughout the game.
HOME, SWEET, HOME, LORETTO
• Saint Francis is 5-6 at home, and the team is averaging 72.3 points per game at DeGol Arena. Conversely, the Red Flash is 2-10 on the road, and the squad averaging 59.0 points per game in Loretto.
• Saint Francis has registered a 20-point scorer in four of its last six home games, six of its last 11 home games this season, 13 of its previous 19 games dating back to last year, 17 of its last 27 (home games in the previous two seasons and 24 of its last 39 (home games in the last three years). If you eliminate the five non-Division I games played in this span; the squad had registered 20-point performers in 24 of the 34 Division I games played in the last three years. The Frankies are even better in league games, going 3-for-5 this season, 7 of 8 last season, and 6 of 9 in 2021-22 for a total of 16 of 23 games in NEC play with a 20-point performer.
• Before the last two games in Loretto, the Frankies had registered four-straight 20-point scoring games and nine-straight dating back to last year.
• The streak ended against Sacred Heart on January 25, despite sophomore
Miles Webb narrowly missing the mark with a career-high 19 points. Freshman
Bobby Rosenberger III posted 19 points against Merrimack on January 27, just missing the mark.
• Sophomore
Cam Gregory has three 20+ point games at home, while freshman
Carlos Lopez, Jr. has a pair. Rosenberger and fellow freshmen
Aaron "Ace" Talbert each have one apiece.Â
TRENDING UP
• Freshman
Eli Wilborn has registered at least nine points in nine of the 10 league games this season and seven rebounds in seven league games. In his last four home games, the freshman averages 16.3 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. He is coming off a career-best 19 points and 16 rebounds against Merrimack on January 27 in his last home game.
• Wilborn had four blocks in his last game at LIU, marking the second-highest total this season to his five rejections against Campbell on December 30. It was the first time he had at least three blocks in three games in a contest, the longest stretch without hitting that mark this season.
• According to @nechoopsron, Wilborn, who is second in rebounding (7.3 rpg.), second in blocked shots (1.83 pg.) and fourth in field goal percentage (54.6), is looking to become the first freshman since CCSU's Kyle Vinales (scoring, free throws, 3-pointers made) to finish in the Top-5 in the NEC in three categories in 2011-12. Before that, you'd have to go back to the 1999-00 season when future NEC Player of the Year Corsley Edwards ended his freshman campaign rated in the Top in rebounding and field goal percentage blocks.
• Freshman
Carlos Lopez, Jr. was the only player on the road trip to register double figures in both games and has registered double figures in three of the four games since he returned to the starting lineup. He averages 14.5 points per game in that stretch after averaging 5.0 in his first four starts of the season. In addition, the freshman has registered three 20-point games in his last 11 contests.
• Freshman
Aidan Harris notched his second 10+ rebound game of the season with an NEC career-high 11 boards at LIU. Harris and Wilborn are the only two players on the team to have a multiple double-figure rebound game this season. The freshman has grabbed at least five rebounds in five straight games, including seven boards in his last three games. In his previous 10 games, Harris has three seven-rebound games, a pair of five rebounds and eight rebound contests, and his 11-board contest in Brooklyn. The freshman averages 5.8 points and 7.2 rebounds per game in his last five games.
• Sophomore
Wisler Sanon II is averaging 10.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game in his last two games after posting a career-high 13 points and seven rebounds against CCSU on February 1 and eight points and four boards against LIU, which are also his two highest point totals on league play.
