Men’s Volleyball Drops Five Set Thriller To No. 10 Penn State

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW 
>>Saint Francis University men's volleyball lost their second-straight five set match to No. 10 Penn State on Sunday afternoon (15-25, 25-23, 25-19, 22-25, 7-15).

>>Nathan Zini led the Red Flash offense in kills with 23, the most by a player this season and the most since Andrew Deardorff recorded the same amount against Daeman on April 15. 2023

>>Peyton Blain(12), Andrew Deardorff(10), and Ryan Parker(10) each recorded double-digit digs.

>>Along with 10 digs, Parker tallied an all-around statline of 43 assists, five kills, and four service aces. He is now one assist away from reaching 2,000 career assists.

TURNING POINT OF THE GAME 
The Nittany Lions took set four to tie the match at two sets apiece. The start of the final set was a close one, with Saint Francis down a slim 6-5. Penn State would proceed to go on a 9-2 run to take control, and a Toby Ezeonu block capped off the set to give them the match win.

FLASH MOMENTS
The opening set was controlled by the Nittany Lions. After the score was tied at eight, they would go on a 9-1 run and take the momentum through the remainder of the set. Penn State went on to take a 1-0 lead by a final score of 25-15.

The Red Flash responded in set two. After going down 6-4 to start, they responded with a 10-4 run and would build their lead to 24-20. The defense held the Nittany Lions' offense to a .138 hitting percentage. The blue and white attempted a comeback with three straight points, but a Deardorff kill put an end to the set to give Saint Francis set two.

Set three saw the Red Flash get out to a 11-5 lead and increase their lead to as high as 24-16. The offense registered 13 kills, a .429 hitting percentage, and six service aces during the set. Penn State would try another comeback with three straight points, but a service error put an end to it and helped Saint Francis go up 2-1 in the match.

Set four saw the Nittany Lions get out to an 8-2 lead, but the Red Flash rallied to go up 15-14 midway through. In continuation to the theme of the set, Penn State went on a 3-0 run and would hold the lead until the end. The blue and white tied the match at two apiece with a final score of 25-22.

FLASH NUGGETS
Brady Stump recorded seven kills and five digs.

After recording a career-high eight blocks on Saturday, Nicholas Lynch tallied four blocks.

Sunday was the final time that the Red Flash will be playing out of conference for the remainder of the season.

Men's Volleyball returns to NEC play with two matches at home against Daeman Mar. 22-23. Friday's match will be at 6:00 p.m. and the following match on Saturday will begin at 4:00 p.m.
