The Red Flash were down 11-3 at halftime, but the Trojans did not slow down their offensive attack in the second half. USC continued to outscore Saint Francis 4-2 in the third quarter but kept the Red Flash out of the game, scoring seven goals in the fourth.
Caylah Olay (Redondo Beach, Calif.) scored with 46 seconds remaining in the game to make the score 21-6, but a powerplay goal by USC with six seconds left ensured the home team's win.
FLASH MOMENTS
The Red Flash got on the board with 33 seconds left in the first quarter with
Megan Marlin (Flower Mound, Texas) finding the back of the net to make the score 6-1.
Early in the second quarter, Olay tallied a goal to keep the score within six goals at 8-2. USC continued to score, but a goal by Emese Szucs (Budapest, Hungary) wrapped up scoring in the first half at an 11-3 score.
Both of the Red Flash's third-quarter goals came in the first three minutes of the frame. Sarah Hartwell (Grand Blanc, Mich.) tallied the first goal of the quarter. With just over five minutes remaining, Olay found the back of the net for her second goal of the game.
