Saint Francis Women's Lacrosse Drops First-Place Showdown With Sacred Heart

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> In a battle of two teams tied at 6-1 in first place in the Northeast Conference (NEC), Saint Francis drops a 14-5 decision on the road at Sacred Heart in women's lacrosse action on Saturday.
>> Bella Fisher (Duxbury, Mass.) and Lizzie Fisher (Hagerstown, Md.) each had two goals to pace the Red Flash, while Danielle Hernandez (New Fairfield, Conn.) dished out two assists.
>> Taylor Coughlin (Hespeler, Ontario) made 14 stops in the cage.

TURNING POINT OF THE GAME

After Bella Fisher scored the day's first goal to give Saint Francis a 1-0 lead, Sacred the Pioneers scored five of the next six tallies to take the lead for good, and the Red Flash could get no closer than two goals the rest of the way.

FLASH QUOTE
"Today wasn't our day. It's tough to win when your opponent is given multiple second-chance opportunities. Taylor continues to play well in the cage. She made outstanding saves again today. Our clearing was on point. We handled Sacred Heart's ride with no problem. Two defenders, Bella and Holly, played tough defense against their matchups. The draw unit played tough. We made it a competitive game on the circle. The settled attack struggled to find quality scoring opportunities. That aspect needs to get better before we play Stonehill next week." - head coach Tracy Coyne on the game

FLASH MOMENTS
Bella Fisher found the twine on an 8-meter tally 71 seconds into the match and again on a free-position attempt at 3:28 in the third quarter.

Lizzie Fisher posted her scores in the first half at 2:12 in the first quarter off an assist from Elizabeth Mahmud (Downingtown, Pa.) and a pass from Hernandez at 8:12 in the second quarter.

Nancy Alden (East Lyme, Conn.) received Hernandez's second helper of the afternoon at 2:49 in the second quarter.

FLASH NUGGETS
Bella Fisher also had five draw controls on the day to move into eighth place in program history for career draws with 88. With her two goals, the sophomore moves within four points of becoming the 13th player in program history with 100 points and five tallies of moving into the program's Top-10 for career goals. Bella Fisher has 77 goals and 19 assists for 96 points going into her next game in her home state of Massachusetts.

Hernandez, who became the 12th player with 100 points earlier this season, also made some moves on the all-time list, jumping into fifth place with 54 career helpers. The two assists against Sacred Heart also gave her 19 for the season, moving her into the top 10 on the single-season chart and making her the fourth player in team history to have two marks in the top 10.

Lizzie Fisher notched her seventh multi-goal performance of the season and 20th of her career. The senior has 65 goals and 21 assists for 84 points in her career.

Coughlin's 14 saves are the third-most of her career. It was the fourth time she has registered double-digit saves in the last five matches and the seventh of her career.

The loss ended two streaks for the Red Flash. The team was riding a six-game winning streak, which tied the program record from the end of last season. The team had also allowed under 10 goals in six straight games, which was a program record.

Despite the loss, Saint Francis is still off to its best NEC start in team history at 6-2. The Red Flash, which has clinched a tournament berth for the second-straight season, can clinch its first-ever home playoff game with wins in its last two matches.

NEXT UP
