Saint Francis was in the driver's seat, maintaining a lead through the entire game. The home team was up 11-3 entering the fourth quarter. The Lakers scored five in the quarter, but the Red Flash kept ahold of their lead, with
Emese Szucs (Budapest, Hungary) recording the final two goals of the game to lock up the win.
FLASH MOMENTS
The Red Flash came out strong out of the gate, tallying four goals in the opening frame.
Kayla Rhoads (Oceanside, Calif.) notched the first goal of the game. Szucs tallied her first goal of the game for a 2-0 lead with 3:36 to go. Mercyhurst responded, but goals by
Caylah Olay (Redondo Beach, Calif.) and Szucs gave a 4-1 lead.
In the third quarter, Saint Francis outscored Mercyhurst 4-1 once again.
Lucy Willis (Ft. Thomas, Ky.) found the back of the net just 24 seconds into the quarter, with Olay scoring again to extend their lead to 9-2. A goal by the Lakers narrowed the Red Flash lead at the 5:03 mark, but the offensive efforts by Saint Francis were unfazed with Rhoads and
Aubrey Miller (Mohnton, Pa.) each tallying a goal.
FLASH NUGGETS
Szucs made the most of her senior day, recording eight goals in front of the home crowd.
Olay and Sam Eschleman (Reading, Pa.) each notched two goals. Miller, Rhoads and Willis picked up one goal each on the day.
