9/20/2024 6:13:00 PM

BOX SCORE WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> Consu de Castro might have a new nickname: Queen of Charlotte. The sophomore posted two goals in the first quarter after recording a pair of goals in last year's meeting against Queens to propel Saint Francis to a 3-0 win in non-conference field hockey action on Friday. After starting the final scoring play, De Castro had a hand in all three goals.
>> Sofia Marciano added her first career tally to seal the win.
>> Mia DiGenova made three saves for her second shutout of the season, while the Red Flash has posted a shutout in three of the last four games.
>> Saint Francis has won four straight matches to improve to 5-2, the third-best start in program history.

TURNING POINTS OF THE MATCH
It did not take long for de Castro to reacquaint herself with the cage against Queens 81 seconds into the match. The sophomore increased the lead to two goals unassisted at 7:35 in the first quarter.

FLASH MOMENTS
After four players notched their first collegiate score last weekend against Mercyhurst, Marciano joined the club of firsts at 59:33 off a penalty corner inserted by de Castro and assisted by Dolores Zavaleta to clinch the 3-0 win.

FLASH NUGGETS

De Castro registered her second career two-goal performance this season and third in her career to finish with a career-high five points. The sophomore posted a pair of goals against Queens in her collegiate debut on August 26, 2023, in Loretto. She leads the team with six goals and two assists for 14 points on the season, with all 14 of her points coming on the first match of the weekend, a trend that has continued since her first year, with all but one of her goals taking place in the opening match of the weekend. De Castro has nine goals and three assists for 21 points in her career.

It is the first time a player has had a hand in three goals since Zavaleta had three assists against LIU on October 9, 2022. Madison Waldspurger had a hat trick against Central Michigan seven days before that match to be the only three players on the roster contributing to three scores in a game.

Marciano joined Cruz Cánepa , Josefina Sayal Aguirre, T Ciaccia, and Emilee Myers in posting their first collegiate goal after the quintet registered their first career tally last weekend against Mercyhurst. Anna Commero and Grace Reed also had their first career assist the previous week.

DiGenova notched her first career shutout against Georgetown on September 8 and then combined with Amber Bryan for a shutout against Mercyhurst on September 13 before notching her second solo shutout on Friday. It is the first time since the beginning of the 2016 season the Red Flash has posted shutouts in three of four games. It is just the sixth time in program history that the squad has turned this trick after also accomplishing the feat twice in 2015 and 2016.

Zavaleta notched an assist for the second-straight game to record two goals and three assists for seven points in her senior campaign. She has eight goals and 15 assists for 31 points in her career. She needs four assists to join the Top-5 in career assists in program history and eight points to crack the Top-10 in career points.

Saint Francis improved to 5-2 for the first time in program history, with only 2014 (7-0) and 2016 (6-1) ahead of this pace. The team has won at least four games in a row for the sixth time in program history and the first since 2022.
