Men’s Volleyball Takes Down Rockhurst In Four Sets

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> Saint Francis men's volleyball secured its first win of the season in a four set win over Rockhurst Saturday afternoon (25-23, 25-22, 23-25, 25-23).

>> Andrew Deardorff neared a double double with 15 kills and nine digs. The senior outside hitter also recorded a hitting percentage of .406, three blocks (one solo, two assisted), and three service aces.

>> Brady Stump (11) and Michael Mosbacher (10) were the other two players that notched double digit kills as a part of a team season high of 54 kills.

>> Nicholas Lynch posted an all around statline of eight kills, a .545 hitting percentage, a team-high six blocks, four digs, and two service aces.

TURNING POINT OF THE MATCH
The Hawks took set three, 25-23, to cut the match deficit to 2-1. The fourth set proved to be a neck-and-neck battle between the two teams. The Red Flash got off to a quick 12-9 lead, but Rockhurst scored four straight points to go up one. It would start a stretch where there were eight ties and four lead changes.

With the startup program on the verge of taking the match to five serves with a late 21-20 lead, Saint Francis responded with a 5-2 run to pull away with the match. A service error from the Hawks helped give the Red Flash a 25-23 set three victory.

FLASH MOMENTS

The opening set began with the Red Flash getting out to a 17-14 lead, but the Hawks scored four straight points to stop the momentum. With Saint Francis trailing 20-19 going into the final sets, they would respond with a 6-3 run that included two Mosbacher kills. A service error from Rockhurst's Nathan Jacques helped the Red Flash come out with a 25-23 set one win.

Set two started out with another back-and-forth battle, with the teams dead even at seven. The score stood at 12-11 near the halfway point, but the Red Flash would go on a a 5-1 run to go up 17-12. It was that momentum that would not allow the Hawks to get any closer than two as Saint Francis took set two, 25-22.

In the third set, Saint Francis jumped out to a 15-12 lead midway through the set. They would remain up 20-18 going into the final serves. On the verge of getting swept, Rockhurst would rally with a 7-3 run to take set three by a final score of 25-23.

FLASH NUGGETS

The Red Flash had a dominant defensive performance, recording season-bests in digs (38) and blocks (11). Richard Kaminski had his first double-digit performance with a career-high 11. Mosbacher added six.

Sam Lane racked up a career-high nine kills, a .500 hitting percentage, and four assisted blocks.

Along with Stump's 11 kills, the junior outside hitter posted four digs and three blocks on the defensive end.

Kyle Charles dished out 38 assists and registered four assisted blocks. The freshman setter also recorded his first career service ace in the first set.

Jacob Strnisa tallied his first career dig.

Men's volleyball will travel to Princeton, N.J. on Friday, Jan. 24 to take on #19 Princeton at 7:00 p.m. The following day will see the Red Flash go from Princeton to Newark and face off against NJIT at 4:00 p.m.
