FRANKIES TIDBITS IN A FLASH
• Saturday's game between Saint Francis and Wagner marks the 80th meeting in the all-time series dating back to the 1984-85 season. The Red Flash leads the series 52-28 and holds a 27-12 advantage in Staten Island. Saint Francis has won the last three meetings in the series, the longest streak since the Red Flash won five consecutive from 2017-19. With a win on Saturday, Saint Francis would win back-to-back contests at the Spiro Center for the first time since 2018 and 2019.
• "Now you played hard in here, people, and I am proud of every last stinking one of you. So let's just give thing everything we got. We may fall on our faces, but if we do, we will fall with dignity! With a guitar in our hands, and rock in our hearts! And in the words of AC/DC: "We roll tonight, to the guitar bite, and for those about to rock, I salute you." - Dewey Finn, School of Rock
• A little-known fact is that part of the 2003 movie School of Rock was filmed on the campus of Wagner College. Before the Red Flash NEC opening win at CCSU on January 2, Staten Island was the home of the team's last road win in conference play, with a 76-60 victory on February 15, 2023. Like most teams in every sport, the Red Flash has registered more success at home than on the road, which is no different under head coach Keila Whittington. Saint Francis is 25-20 at DeGol Arena and 18-28 on the road under the six-year head coach.
• The loss at LIU ended a three-game winning streak, the team's longest winning streak since the 2021-22 season when the Red Flash won five straight games. That season was also the last time the squad won consecutive road contests in the final two games of that winning streak.
• The following three teams on the Red Flash schedule will complete its season series in 26 days with: Le Moyne, LIU, and Wagner. Le Moyne is like the chocolate cookie part of the Oreo Cookie, and LIU and Wagner are the white icing middle. After hosting the Dolphins, Sharks, and Wagner, the team traveled to LIU and Wagner with five days separating the two games against each team. It is almost reminiscent of the old NEC Rivalry Week from 2009-11. The team will complete the three-team series at Le Moyne on February 6.
• The Red Flash just finished a four-game homestand, and in the three-game road trip sandwiched in between another four-gamer, Bruce Nolan from Bruce Almighty might say, "That's how the cookie crumbles." It is the first time in program history the team will have two four-game homestands in the same season. The team hosted four consecutive games in league play six times and had two five-game homestands in 1995-96 and 1999-00, and won all five games both times. It is the third time under Whittington that the Red Flash has recorded a four-game homestand (2019-20, 2022-23). The squad has won three of four in a four-game homestand thrice (2004-05, 2010-11, and 2019-20) and split the four games in 2012-13, 2013-14, and 2022-23. Saint Francis has never had a losing record in a four-game NEC homestand. The team went 3-1 in the first homestand.

AN SFU WIN WOULD
• Improve to 5-3 for the ninth time in team history in NEC play
• Sweep the season series with Wagner for the second straight season
• Win at the Spiro Center in consecutive seasons for the first time since 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons
• End a two-game losing streak on the win
• Be the team's fourth win in the last four contests
• Be Saint Francis' seventh win of the 2024-25 season

ABOUT THE SEAHAWKS

• Wagner comes into the contest 5-13 overall and 2-4 in Northeast Conference play after falling to Mercyhurst 63-57 on Thursday. The Lakers defeated the Staten Island program 71-63 five days prior.
• The Seahawks had a non-conference strength of schedule ranking of 303 after playing two quadrants two teams, a quadrant three program, and seven quad four teams. Wagner's best win this season is against No. 249 NJIT, thanks to a 62-60 win on December 12.
• Julia Fabozzi paced Wagner with 15 points, while Taleah Washington (13 points) and Keona Foz (10 points) also found double figures.
• Washington leads the squad with 16.0points per game and 53 assists. Fabozzi powers the team with 6.6 rebounds per game and is second with 15.4 points per game. Foz has 44 steals for the Seahawks.

LAST TIME WE MET
• Behind a career-high 13 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals from freshman Ineivi Plata, Saint Francis defeated Wagner 51-47 on Monday.
• Junior Marissa Shelton added 10 points, while freshman Alary Bell hauled in a career-high 13 rebounds. Julia Fabozzi paced the Seahawks with 12 points, and Angelie Richard chipped in 10 points.
• Sophomore Yanessa Boyd registered the go-ahead steal and layup with 89 seconds left, while Plata made two free throws to seal the win. Shelton also came up big in the second half with a 3-pointer as the shot clock was expiring and two free throws to tie the game at 45.
• In the last meeting in Staten Island, a 76-60 Red Flash win on February 15, 2023, Kendall Carruthers powered Saint Francis in the second meeting with 32 points. Kameryn Dorsey had a double-double after dishing out 12 assists and grabbing 10 rebounds, while Harris Robinson (13 points) and Marina Artero (12 points) each finished with double digits in points. Taleah Washington was the Seahawks leading scorer with 17 points in the second tilt. Rakisha Ballinger (15 points) and Kiera Edmonds (10 points, 10 rebounds) also had 10+ in the contest.

LAST TIME OUT

• Coming off three-straight wins at DeGol Arena, Saint Francis could not sustain the momentum on the road, falling 63-56 at LIU on Thursday.
• Freshman Ineivi Plata paced the Red Flash with a career-high 14 points. The freshman registered six rebounds, three assists, and a steal.
• Junior Natalie Johnson added 13 points off the bench.

TRENDING UP
• "The rookie sensation came into the season unknown. But everyone knows him now." - Darrell Cartrip in Cars. In most sports, the scoring gets noticed, and not always the little things. Freshman Ineivi Plata has been a key contributor to the Red Flash this season with assists, steals, and defense (yes, Bill Murray, she plays defense), but last two games, she has picked up her scoring output. She has averaged 13.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.5 blocks, and 1.0 steals per game in her last two games. The freshman tallied 13 points, five rebounds, three assists, three blocks, and a steal against Wagner on January 20 and followed that up with 14 points, six rebounds, three assists, and a steal at LIU on January 23. Stat stuffing has been part of her repertoire this season, but she has an uptick in scoring. The freshman has 12 games with at least three assists, including a career-high nine helpers at Duquesne on December 1. The 5-3 guard has six games with at least five rebounds with a career-high seven caroms at Robert Morris on November 20 and five tilts with two assists with a career-best three thefts at CCSU on January 2. The last two games marked the fifth time Plata has recorded three or more assists and five or more rebounds in a game this season.
• Junior Natalie Johnson notched her eighth game of the season in double figures and seventh on the road at LIU with 13 points. Thirteen points were the most points Johnson scored in her two seasons at Robert Morris, thanks to that output against the College of Charleston on December 16, 2023. The junior has posted 13 or more points four times this season, with all of them coming in the last nine games and on the road. She has registered all of those games in the states of Delaware, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York, so she must love being in the northern part of the country. Johnson has also grabbed four rebounds in her last two games and four times this season to go along with a career-high tying six rebounds at Coppin State on November 12.
• Junior Marissa Shelton came into the weekend with four consecutive games in double figures after recording 10+ points in all four home games during the homestand, averaging 12.5 points per game in the 3-1 homestand. Shelton is opposite to Johnson; she likes playing at DeGol Arena much more than on the road. The junior is shooting 43.5 percent at home and 21.7 percent on the road from the floor.
• Maybe you feel like Gilligan, and instead of a three-hour tour, we have a three-team tour of mascots around the sea with the Le Moyne Dolphins, LIU Sharks, and Wagner Seahawks. Maybe we should Just Go With It, go to Hawaii, swim with Dolphins, and take acting lessons from the real Dolph Lundgren.
