TURNING POINT OF THE GAME
The Red Flash kept the same fire going that ended after last night's win with a 4-0 start. Korrin Burns fueled Saint Francis with an impact on each of the first four points, including three kills and an assisted block with middle blocker Kori McClure. Paloma Gonzalez Jaramillo registered two kills for the Red Flash to inspire another 5-1 spark. Alexandra Sappia collected four assists on the five plays; she set up two Gonzalez Jaramillo, an Alyssa Irwin, and a Burns kill. Chandler Alter threw in a service ace as well. Burns slammed down two kills, and Alexa Chapla gained an ace to give the Red Flash its confidence to win the next two sets and sweep the win.Â
FLASH MOMENTSÂ
During the second set, Sappia set up Burns with a kill to tie the set 11 all. Sappia knew another kill was coming for Burns, so she threw up a high ball on the left for Burns to lay down and give Saint Francis the lead. New Haven collected a kill, but Burns did not allow a comeback, recording back-to-back kills. The Red Flash kept striking the ball hot with help from a Gwen Atkins kill, who also had an ace, and Irwin kill. Atkins set up a ball to Gonzalez Jaramillo to confirm a kill in her column. Sappia found Burns one more time to bring the set to match point, however, that was not the end for Burns. New Haven set up a player for a kill, but Burns denied her at the net, claiming set two.Â
In the last set, the Red Flash went on an 8-2 run that destroyed the chance of any comeback. Atkins gave Saint Francis the fuel with a powerful kill down the right-side line. Sappia found her outside hitter, Burns, for her 19th kill of the night. Irwin registered herself a kill down the middle and expand the gap. Chapla tossed in back-to-back aces for the Red Flash. After Burns put Saint Francis at match point with a kill, New Haven served up a bad set allowing Saint Francis to sweep.Â
