Women’s Basketball Drops Thursday’s Contest To Stonehill

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> Saint Francis Women's Basketball dropped the first of their two games this week to Stonehill Thursday night, 74-43.

>> Marissa Shelton recorded a career-high 18 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the field and knocking three of her four three pointers. The junior's seven field goals are another career best. She also registered five rebounds for the third-straight game.

>> Giselle Eke collected the most rebounds on the team with a career-high six.

TURNING POINTS OF THE GAME
The game began with a quick 9-2 burst for the Skyhawks in the first 3:11. The Red Flash responded with a 8-1 run to knot the score at 10 midway through the quarter. The teams exchanged baskets until Stonehill's Megan Sias drained a three to give them a 19-16 lead after one quarter.

The second quarter began with Saint Francis cutting their deficit to 25-23 with 3:51 left. The rally wouldn't last, however, as the Skyhawks went on a 10-3 run in the final three minutes to go up 33-26 going into the break.

Stonehill took over in the second half. After a Shelton three pointer to start off the scoring, the Skyhawks went on a 19-3 run through the remaining 8:30 in the third quarter. The visiting team continued their momentum by ballooning their advantage to as high as 33 in the fourth on their way to the win.

FLASH NUGGETS
Thursday night's loss ended the Red Flash's three-game winning streak and their four-game home streak dating back to January 11 against Le Moyne

Shelton notched her eighth overall double-digit scoring game of the season and has achieved the mark six times in NEC play.

Ineivi Plata continued her 16-game steal streak after tallying another takeaway in tonight's contest. The freshman guard is tied for fourth in total steals (18) and steals per game (1.6).

Harris Robinson posted seven points for the second-sraight contest and went 3-for-6 from the field.

NEXT UP FOR FLASH
Saint Francis will face CCSU at DeGol Arena Saturday, Feb. 15 at 4:00 p.m. With the Blue Devils' 76-74 loss to Mercyhurst, the Red Flash remain a game and a half above CCSU for third in the standings.
