Softball Falls to East Carolina and South Carolina

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> Softball fell to East Carolina and South Carolina 8-2 and 7-0, respectively.

TURNING POINTS
After the Red Flash tied the game at two apiece against the Pirates, East Carolina put up runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, pulling ahead 8-2 with Saint Francis unable to respond.

Up 1-0, the Gamecocks put up six runs, scoring once on an error with the other four runs being unearned. In the top of the seventh, Madelynn Bates hit a single up the middle and stole second on a wild pitch but was left on base, ending the game.


FLASH MOMENTS
With Hannah Bendle on first after being walked, Savannah Nash sent the ball out of the park at center field, tying the score 2-2 in the bottom of the third inning.

In the bottom of the second, the Gamecocks' first batter flied out to Morgan Pasternak. On the next two batters, AB Cipalla put on a show at second base, catching two hard hits to end the inning.


FLASH NUGGETS
Cipalla went 2-for-3 in the game against East Carolina, including a double to left center in the first. In the game against the Gamecocks, Nash went 2-for-2.

Olivia Kolowitz pitched for four innings in the afternoon game, allowing six runs with five walks and three strikeouts. Addison Deal made her collegiate debut on the mound, pitching for two innings with two strikeouts and one walk.

Allie Braly started against South Carolina, pitching for four innings, allowing seven runs (five unearned) and walking three batters. Bates ended the game, pitching one inning with one walk and one strikeout.
