Women’s Basketball Falls To Chicago State In Overtime

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> Saint Francis Women's Basketball dropped a close overtime contest to Chicago State Saturday afternoon, 58-55.

>> Natalie Johnson poured in a career-high 25 points (11-for-21 from the field) and nine rebounds. The junior guard added three assists and two steals as well.

>> Ineivi Plata was the other Red Flash player that scored in double figures with 10 points. The freshman guard pitched in six rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block.

>> Harris Robinson neared a double double herself with eight points and eight rebounds. The senior piled on three assists and a steal.

TURNING POINTS OF THE GAME
Saint Francis got out to a quick 6-2 start in the first quarter and carried that momentum through the rest of the first 10 minutes. They ended the quarter with a 13-8 lead and continued that advantage into the second quarter, holding a 18-14 lead with 6:06 left. This was when the Cougars took over the final six minutes, going on a 12-3 rally to go up 26-21 at halftime.

The third quarter started out with a 10-4 run by Chicago State to go up by as much as 36-25. They carried their early start to a 44-36 lead going into the fourth.

The fourth quarter was controlled by the Red Flash. After two free throws from the Cougars, Saint Francis outscored the home team 14-4 the rest of the way. With the score at 50-44 in favor of Chicago State with 1:54 left, Johnson and Marina Artero combined for the final six points. Johnson hit the game-tying jumper with 10 seconds left to take the game into overtime.

Overtime saw Robinson hit a three pointer to give Saint Francis a 55-53 lead with 2:22 left. This would be their final bucket, however, as Chicago State scored the final five points and stopped the Red Flash on their final possession to secure the win.

Johnson scored 10 of the Red Flash's 14 points in the fourth quarter.

FLASH NUGGETS
Saint Francis tied their season-high in steals with nine.

Johnson compiled her 12th game with double-digit points, including seven in NEC play. The transfer junior from Robert Morris now has also totaled five or more rebounds in three contests.

Plata has now recorded a steal in 20-straight games, including seven with more than one takeaway in conference action.

Along with Plata, Jade Campbell and Giselle Eke each tallied a block.
