Women's Water Polo Splits Conference Matches Against Mercyhurst and Michigan

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> Women's water polo split games in the Wolverine Invitational, defeating Mercyhurst 14-10 and falling to No. 15 Michigan 20-5.

TURNING POINTS
Saint Francis outscored Mercyhurst 5-2 in the third quarter. Georgia Ellison and Caylah Olay scored on back-to-back penalty shots to make it an 8-5 score. Lucia Redaelli and Breeze Ohlson added goals to extend the Red Flash lead. After two goals by the Lakers, Redaelli scored her second goal of the day for an 11-7 score. Mercyhurst attempted a comeback, but Saint Francis maintained their lead for the win.

Michigan put up seven goals before Kayla Rhoads tallied a goal with 5:37 left in the second. The Wolverines did not let up, scoring four more goals before Rhoads found the back of the net again for an 11-2 score at the half, a deficit the Red Flash could not get out from under.


FLASH MOMENT
The Red Flash traded goals with the Lakers in the fourth quarter. Mercyhurst struck first with a penalty shot early in the fourth quarter, garnering a response from Ohlson. With 35 seconds remaining, Adi Garges tallied a goal that was bookended by goals from Mercyhurst. With four seconds left in the game, Sofia Maioriello found the back of the net to end the game.

FLASH NUGGETS
Olay led scoring in the first game of the day with three goals. Rhoads led offensive efforts in the second game with two.

Claire Gebhardt, Aubrey Miller and Maioriello earned two assists each over the Lakers. Sarah Hartwell, Miller and Redaelli each tallied assists against Michigan.

Grace Raquel and Eilis Rogis earned three saves apiece in the win. Isabel Lumley started against the Wolverines with three saves, with Raquel and Rogis seeing time in net and recording two saves each.
