Softball Defeats FDU in Run-Rule Win

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> Softball won the series opener against FDU, 10-2, in six innings.

TURNING POINT
Ahead 5-2 in the sixth inning, Addie Smith hit a single through the right side, providing Hannah Bendle with a scoring opportunity. With AB Cipalla already on third, Olivia Ulam was walked to load the bases. Sofia Zielinski cracked the ball deep into left center for a walk-off grand slam.

FLASH MOMENTS
With bases loaded in the bottom of the first, Zielinski reached on an error by the Knights' first baseman, with Smith and Cipalla scoring on the play.

The right side of the field remained a sweet spot for Saint Francis in the first, with Aliya Garroway singling through the right side to make it a 3-0 game.

In the bottom of the second inning, Cipalla hit a double down the right field line for another run by Bendle.

Ulam reached first on a fielder's choice, tallying an RBI to make the score 5-2 in the bottom of the fourth.


FLASH NUGGETS
Bendle, Garroway and Smith went 2-for-3 on the day.

Zielinski was 1-for-4 with five RBIs, including the walk-off grand slam.

Ulam tallied 10 putouts at first base.

Allie Braly spent all six innings in the circle for the Red Flash, allowing two runs (one earned) with two walks and two strikeouts.
