Women’s Lacrosse Wins Third Straight NEC Game, Garcia Breaks Caused Turnover Record In Senior Day Victory Over Delaware State

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> Saint Francis women's lacrosse won their third-straight NEC game in a 19-2 victory versus Delaware State on Saturday.

>> Elizabeth Garcia broke the single season record for caused turnovers after forcing five in today's contest. The sophomore surpassed the previous mark of 30 held by Peyton LeConte during the 2021 campaign.

>> Mak Patten and Samatha Hewitt each led the way with five points. Patten notched five goals while Hewitt collected four of her own and dished out an assist.

>> Nine different players scored as a part of the Red Flash's 19 goals.

TURNING POINTS OF THE GAME
Saint Francis scored five goals within the first 10:16 of the game, and never looked back. The team would outscore the Hornets, 12-0, in the first half. 

The Red Flash kept up their momentum with seven more goals in the second half on their way to the victory.

FLASH MOMENTS
Christina Roncarati got the scoring started in the first quarter off a free position shot at the 13:52 mark. The next goal was from Nancy Alden off an assist from Hewitt with 11:08 left. Mahmud (8:15) and Hewitt (5:32 scored unassisted for the third and fourth goals. 

Victoria DiRenno (4:44), Hewitt (3:40), and Patten (1:09) capped off the scoring in the first 15 minutes to bring the Saint Francis lead up to 7-0. Heather Delbone, Brooke Lacey, and Nancy Alden pitched in assists for all three goals.

Hewitt scored her third goal of the contest at the 11:19 mark of the second quarter to push the advantage to 8-0. Colleen Roche connected with Makayla Murray for the second goal of the quarter at the 9:55 mark to make it 9-0. Another assisted goal came for goal No. 10, as Delbone found Patten for a goal with 7:50 left. 

Murray scored unassisted for her second goal of the second 15-minute period with 5:40 left.

Lani Filoon tallied her first collegiate goal off a free position shot with 25 seconds left to make the score at halftime 12-0.

After a Delaware State goal to open the second half, Patten scored unassisted at the 9:36 mark. Roncarati followed that up with a goal off a free position shot with 7:08 left. Givens put another free position shot to the back of the net with 2:25 left for the final Saint Francis goal of the third quarter.

The Red Flash shut out the Hornets in the fourth quarter, 4-0. Hewitt (9:54), Alden (5:59) and Patten (3:17, 0:27) were responsible for the scores. Collen assisted on both of Patten's goals while Chyler Espino dished out an assist to Alden.

FLASH NUGGETS
Saint Francis sits at fourth in the conference with a 4-3 record after their three-game winning streak. With Mercyhurst unable to participate in the NEC Tournament, the Red Flash control their destiny if they can win one of their last two games.

The team collected a season-high nine assists off the 19 goals. Roche's three assists is a new career high, and Delbone's two is a new season high.

Roncarati, Alden, and Murray each scored two goals.

DiRenno and Espino each led the team with six draw controls. Direnno's career total now sits at 94, just six away from 100.

Along with her five caused turnovers, Garcia led the team with six ground balls. The sophomore is now tied for fourth all-time in ground balls in a season with 46. She is tied with Jessica Mazzur, who accomplished the feat in 2017.
