TURNING POINTS OF THE GAME
Fueled by two goals and two assists by Hewitt, the freshman staked the Red Flash out to a 6-1 lead after the first quarter.
The freshman then registered back-to-back goals in the third quarter to restore a four-goal advantage.
Coughlin and the defense held the Chippewas to only two goals in the fourth quarter. She had two saves in the frame, including a stop on a free-position attempt with 1:50 left in the match, and halted Central Michigan's previous offensive attack with a caused turnover with 3:48 on the clock.
FLASH MOMENTS
Hewitt had a hand in the first three Saint Francis goals and four of the first five tallies. Mak Patten tied the game at one off a Hewitt pass at 9:04 before Hewitt found the back of the net unassisted at 8:01 and off a feed by Lacey at 7:13. After Givens scored unassisted at 5:07, Hewitt connected with Givens at 4:11 to give the Red Flash a 6-1 advantage.Â
Roncarati posted the only Red Flash score in the second quarter at 11:16 to help the team enter the locker room with a 7-4 edge.
Rocarati twinkled the twine again in the third quarter at 5:57 before Hewitt capped her career afternoon with consecutive goals, unassisted with 1:59 and off a pass from Heather Delbone with 16 seconds left for a 10-6 lead going into the final 15 minutes.
FLASH NUGGETS
Hewitt notched her second four-goal performance this season after having four scores against Duquesne on February 22. It was a career-high in points with six, which marked the third time she has dished out multiple helpers this season. The freshman has 17 goals and 10 assists on the year for 27 points. She is the sixth freshman to dish out at least 10 assists in a single season to sit in fifth place, while the 27 points currently puts her eighth on the freshman chart in program history.
Victoria DiRenno, who had 12 draw controls against FDU on Saturday to record the second most in single-game history, has moved into 10th place on the single-season chart with 53 draw controls and ninth on the career chart with 85.
Coughlin held an opponent under 10 goals for the second time this season, the 10th time in her career. Coughlin is the program's career goal against the average leader, with 11.66 goals against average. The senior needs 21 saves to become the sixth player in team history to reach 300 saves in her career.Â
Lacey, who had a goal and an assist, posted four caused turnovers and three ground balls. Elizabeth Garcia also had four caused turnovers and three ground balls to go along with two draw controls. Garcia has moved into the Top-10 for caused turnovers in a single season with 21 and needs six ground balls to join the chart for single-season ground balls. The sophomore has registered at least four caused turnovers four times and at least three ground balls seven times this season.Â
Chyler Espino remains two ground balls shy of 100 for her career, but moved into the Top-10 for caused turnovers.
Saint Francis has won back-to-back games for the first time this season.
