Saint Francis football head coach Chris Villarrial will be featured on the WTAJ news on Tuesday during its sports segment at 6 and 11 p.m. It will also run during the morning show on Wednesday.
The feature will focus on Villarrial's NFL Draft experience after he graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Villarrial was drafted in the fifth round (152nd overall) by Dave Wannstedt and the Chicago Bears in April 1996. Prior to the draft, Villarrial broke the NFL Combine Bench Press Record. Villarrial played in the NFL from 1996 to 2005 with the Bears (1996-03) and the Buffalo Bills (2004-06). He was a two-time All-Pro with the Bears.
Villarrial, who enters his 16th season as head coach at Saint Francis in 2025, is the program's winningest head coach with 68 wins and has led Saint Francis to a pair of Northeast Conference (NEC) Championships in 2016 and 2022. He also guided the Red Flash to a landmark victory over Kent State in 2023 -Â Â the program's first-ever win against a Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) team.Â
The 2022 team went 9-3 overall to post the second most wins in program history, only to the 1912 team that finished 10-3. The Red Flash also finished 7-0 in NEC play to become the ninth team in NEC history to register an undefeated season in league play.
