TURNING POINT OF THE GAME
Buffalo scored on its first three possessions to take the advantage and never looked back for a 45-6 win in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
FLASH MOMENTSÂ
After Craig Joyner notched his first career interception to set up the Red Flash at the Buffalo 27, Saint Francis cashed in with its first touchdown of the year. Whitfield hit Bobby Cameron for 10 yards and Peyton Nelson for 16 yards before a pair of Western Pennsylvania kids connected for the touchdown.Nick Whitfield Jr. handed the ball off to Jordan Theodore, who played at Sweet Home High School in Buffalo, for a two-yard touchdown. Whitfield played at Fredonia High School.
Saint Francis had its best drive in the first half in the final minutes of the second quarter. Whitfield was 7-for-10 on the drive for 55 yards. The big play in the drive was a 25-yard reception to Andrew Vines. Emmanuel Dyson also had his first two collegiate catches in the drive.
Corey Williams registered his first career interception with 11:48 left in the third quarter.Â
FLASH NUGGETS
Calgaro posted 10 tackles for the second-straight game, both coming against FBS opponents. The current Northeast Conference Player of the Week has recorded double figures in tackles in four of his last five games, including three consecutive. The last time a Red Flash player had 15 tackles was Carter Glassmyer against Sacred Heart on September 23, 2023.Â
Betts has tallied at least eight tackles in both games this season. Kendrick Council tied his career-high with seven tackles.
Whitfield, who grew up 50 minutes from Buffalo, went 17-for-27 on the afternoon with 111 yards passing. Nelson recorded a career-high four catches for 34 yards, including the 16-yard reception to set up Theodore's TD run in the fourth quarter.Â
Saint Francis had a pair of interceptions, marking the first two the team had multiple INTs since playing against Stonehill on September 30, 2023.
It marked the first time Saint Francis played in Buffalo since 1941. The game was also a homecoming for head coach Chris Villarrial after he spent the final three seasons of his NFL career with the Buffalo Bills.Â
It was the first time in team history the Red Flash played consecutive FBS programs. It was almost the one-year anniversary of the program's first win against an FBS program after the Loretto team defeated Kent State 23-17 on September 7, 2024.
