Red Flash Softball Unable to Hold Early Momentum in Day One Action

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Despite a season-high run total, thanks in part to Olivia Hood and Morgan Pasternak, Saint Francis softball walked away winless on Day 1 of the Battle of the Bay Tournament, falling to Quinnipiac 14-6 and Hampton 2-1 at Lady Pirates Softball Stadium in Hampton, Virginia.

TURNING POINT OF THE GAME
The main turning point of game one came during the bottom of the first inning. Despite the Red Flash jumping out to an early 2-0 lead, the Bobcats quickly took the lead with a sacrifice fly and a single to left-center, holding the advantage for the remainder of the game.

Outside of the top of the first inning, game two was a defensive battle for much of the contest. Just when it seemed victory was within reach for the Red Flash, the Pirates dashed those hopes in the bottom of the sixth inning when Hampton strung together a single, an RBI triple, and a bunt to take a 2-1 lead late in the game.

FLASH MOMENTS
This week's Prime Performer is sophomore Morgan Pasternak, who continued her strong play in game one, hitting her third home run of the 2026 season over the right field fence to put the Red Flash on the board 2-0. Later in the same game, freshman Olivia Hood drove in her first collegiate RBI with a double down the right field line, scoring Pasternak and cutting the Bobcats' lead to one run. Just an inning later, senior Annabelle Farmer and Hood once again put the Red Flash within striking distance, combining for a two-run double by Farmer and an RBI single by Hood to narrow the gap to 7-6.

Much like in many previous games, the Red Flash came out swinging early. In the top of the first inning, following a single by Aliya Garroway and a wild pitch that advanced her into scoring position, Pasternak hit the ball deep enough into the outfield to score Garroway, giving the Red Flash a 1-0 lead.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
Hood set a career high with three RBIs in game one and currently ranks third on the team in RBIs this season.

ON DECK
