WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Saint Francis softball was turned away on Day 1 of the Birds Up Bash tournament, falling to UT Arlington and New Mexico State with scores of 8-0 and 10-2, respectively. Junior Marianne Labelle recorded a season-high four hits in Game 1, while reigning Rookie of the Week Olivia Hood added another hit in Game 2.
TURNING POINT OF THE GAME
The momentum shifted in Game 1 when UT Arlington scored first in the top of the first inning on a sacrifice fly to center field, taking a 1-0 lead. In Game 2, the turning point also occurred in the first inning, as New Mexico State quickly took control. Following a series of walks, doubles, and hit-by-pitches, the Aggies surged to a 5-0 lead.
FLASH MOMENTSÂ
Despite failing to score in the first game, the Red Flash recorded four hits against UT Arlington, three of which came from Labelle. This season, she ranks third on the team with 12 total hits.
The bats came alive in the second game against the Aggies. In the top of the second inning, Hood notched her fifth RBI of the season with a single to left field, scoring freshman Sophia Rabatin and putting the Red Flash on the board for the first time. The scoring didn't stop there, as junior Olivia Kolowitz later crossed home plate after junior Lilly Hicks reached on a fielder's error, cutting New Mexico State's lead to 5-2.
