Track & Field Heads To Virginia For The VMI Relays

VMI RELAYS HISTORY
The last time Saint Francis attended this meet was last year where they had 33 top-8 finishes. The women alone had 17 of those finishes with two first place performances. Anna Quackenbuch took first in the 5000-meter run and then Mariclare Anderson, Naomi Hillen, Olivia Renk, and Nina Connors placed first in the distance medley relay. 

The men's team had 15 finishes including Tyler Craft's first ever collegiate event victory in the triple jump. Joseph Sevison was one of several players that placed second during this meet. Sevison had a throw of 16.25m in the men's weight throw. 

LAST EVENT

The women's team accumulated six top 10 performances on day one. Olivia Renk finished in eighth place in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.86. Mackenzie Hirt and Sarah Colman both finished in the top 10 in the 500 meter run. Hirt took fourth place with a time of 1:18.92 and Colman finished in sixth with a time of 1:20.11. 

Nina Connors sat in second place due to her new personal record of 2:57.47 in the women's 1000 meter. Anna Quackenbush leads the women's 5000m with a time of 17:35.66 to take first. In weight throw, Rylee Nicklas took 10th with a throw of 13.81m. 

The men's team registered seven top 10 finishes. Jayden Foster and Tyler Craft both finished top-5 on the day in long jump. Foster took second place with a leap of 7.11m and Craft recorded a 6.88m jump to take fourth place. In the weight throw elite, Vincent Franco and Joseph Sevison both took high finishes. Franco registered a new personal record of 16.97m for third place and Sevison took eighth with 16.42m.

Clark Gulycz and Owen Degnan took third and ninth in the men's weight throw. Gulycz threw 15.41m and Degnan finished 14.74m. In the 4000m distance medley, Saint Francis's men's team took fifth place with a time of 10:35.87. 

On day two, the women's team accumulated five top 10 performances. Renk finished in fourth place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.09. Connors took first place due to her new personal record of 2:18.54 in the women's 800 meter. 

Morgan McNaughton claimed a new person record in the women's 1 Mile Guy Pizz Elite. She took fourth place with a time of 5:02.66. Freshman Kira Olenchick, set a new personal record with 1.45m in high jump to collect fifth place. In shot put, Lorah Thomas took 10th place with a personal record of 11.03m.

The men's team registered seven top 10 finishes. Ayden Martinage placed ninth in the men's seeded high jump with 1.84m. Freshman Braydon Beach took sixth place with in high jump with 1.74m. Gulycz set a new personal record of 17.39m throw in men's shot put elite to take first. 

Brayden Ross had a personal record to take fifth place in shot put with 14.57m. Cam Wagner was not far behind with 14.23m to claim eighth place. Craft placed third in triple jump with 13.86m. In the 4x400m distance medley, Saint Francis's men's team took fifth place with a time of 3:27.72. 

NEC PRESEASON POLL 

Saint Francis women's track & field was picked fifth in the NEC Preseason Poll. Wagner earned five first-place votes and earned the distinction of being the preseason favorite. Stonehill and CCSU both gained two first-place nods to finish in second and third place. Chicago State gained the last vote for first-place, finishing in fourth. After the Red Flash in fifth place, FDU, LIU, New Haven, Mercyhurst, and Le Moyne round out the ten-team poll. 

Saint Francis men's track & field was picked seventh in the NEC Preseason Poll. CCSU earned eight first-place votes and earned the distinction of being the preseason favorite. Wagner gained one first-place vote to finish in second. Stonehill and Chicago State were picked to finish in third and fourth. FDU and LIU were both tied in fifth place, however, LIU earned the last vote for first-place. After the Red Flash in seventh place, New Haven, Le Moyne, and Mercyhurst round out the ten-team poll.

Saint Francis will compete in the NEC Indoor Championship on February 15 and 16 at the Ocean Breeze Park Track & Field Complex. This is located in Somerset, NJ.
