WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Despite pops from Saint Francis bats, the Red Flash falls to the Lakers of Mercyhurst 16-5 in a five-innings affair during a Midweek conference clash, on Wednesday evening at the Red Flash Softball Field in Loretto, Pa. Sophomore Morgan Pasternak had a day at the plate, driving in three runs on two hits, one of which was a two run bomb to the opposite field, to tally her seventh homerun of the year.
FLASH MOMENTS
Although they fell behind early after the Lakers took a 10-0 lead, Saint Francis broke through in the bottom of the fourth inning. Team hits leader, and sophomore Sofia Zielinski ignited the rally with her third double of the season. Sophomore Morgan Pasternak then drove in her first run of the afternoon with an RBI single up the middle, scoring Zielinski, who advanced to third on two Mercyhurst throwing errors. The Red Flash capitalized as junior Marianne Labelle laid down a sacrifice bunt to bring Pasternak home and further cut the Lakers' lead. The final run of the rally came from senior Haley Brag, who stole home to make it 10-3.
Much like the beginning, Pasternak rounded out the scoring for the Red Flash. On her first pitch swinging, she tallied her second and third RBIs of the day with her career-high seventh home run of the year, resulting in a final score of 16-5.
FLASH NUGGETSÂ
In her two seasons in a Red Flash uniform, senior Haley Brag recorded her first career stolen base by swiping home in the bottom of the fourth inning.
