WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Saint Francis fell to NEC foe Wagner in their final matchup of the season, 5-4, on Sunday afternoon at Wagner Softball Field in Staten Island, N.Y. Sophomore Sofia Zielinski finished the day with three RBIs on three hits, including a double and her 12th home run of the year. This was enough to put her name in the school record book.
FLASH MOMENTS
After 48 games, including stops in California, Texas, South Carolina, and throughout the NEC, Saint Francis concluded its regular season with one final road game against Wagner. The Red Flash broke out the bats early, as Zielinski started her day with a double into the left-field gap, scoring junior Marianne Labelle and giving Saint Francis the early advantage. A few at-bats later, sophomore Morgan Pasternak singled through the right side of the field to score Zielinski, extending the Red Flash's lead to 2-0.
Zielinski continued her game in the top of the fifth inning launching a two-run home run over the center-field fence, putting Saint Francis back in the game and tying it at four runs apiece.
FLASH NUGGETS
Zielinski finishes the season with a .452 batting average, tying the all-time single-season record for best average set in 2021 by Mekenzie Saban. The underclassman also broke the program record for the best slugging percentage in a Red Flash uniform, posting .831, beating Jordan Seneca's record of .736 set in 2017.
