Meadville, PA – Saint Francis women's soccer comes up short, 2-1, to Allegheny during Saturday afternoon's matchup.
The Gators got on the board early in the seventh minute to give Allegheny the early 1-0 lead. Saint Francis battled back throughout the remainder of the first half but entered halftime trailing 1-0.
The Red Wolves evened the score early in the second half, with
Molly Baker finding the back of the net in the 53rd minute off assists from
Caterina Schiavo and
Mercedez Paino. The goal marked Baker's fourth of the season and brought the match level at 1-1.
Allegheny regained the lead in the 78th minute to put the Gators ahead 2-1.
"It was a tough match today. Credit to Allegheny, they had a good game plan and executed well. We missed some early chances that might have changed the game. But that is the game. Our team played hard but struggled to find our rhythm," said head coach
Brian Diaz. "We will pick ourselves up and regroup. This group has shown grit all season. Today was no exception. We will be ready for Tuesday's match."
The Red Wolves will be back in action Tuesday in Loretto, Pa., at Stokes Soccerplex. Saint Francis will be taking on the Grove City Wolverines. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
