SAMs: Accomplishments

2013-14
 
  • SAMs host SAM Jams for Freshmen (Nutrition, Drugs & Alcohol, Getting Involved, De-Stress Fest, Diversity, and Teamwork)
  • SAMs establish Pen Pal partnership with Former Red Flash Field Hockey Player, Kate Rossman's 2nd Grade Class at Clay Elementary in Ephrata, PA.
  • SAMs take part in reading program at St. Mikes in Loretto to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday.   
  • SAMs host largest Sports 4 Kids Day ever with over 300 Pre-K - 6th graders in attendance.

2014-15
  • Held 7 SAM Jams to help educate freshman student-athletes on the topics of: Getting to Know Campus Resources, Drugs & Alcohol, Social Media, Diversity,Teamwork, and "De-Stressing" before finals.
  • Continued Pen Pal Partnership with former field hockey player Kate Rossman's 2nd grade class at Clay Elementary in Ephrata, PA
  • Visited St. Michael's School in Loretto, PA to celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday by reading stories to the students
  • Successfully hosted Sports 4 Kids Day with over 310 children in grades K-6

2015-16
  • SAMs continued their Pen Pal Partnership with three elementary school classrooms. SAMs also visited their Pen Pals at Cambria Heights Elementary.
  • SAMs hosted the Second Annual Safe Trick-or-Treat Night for the local community.
  • SAMS put on SAM Jams for the freshmen student-athletes throughout the academic year. Topics included: Team Building, Social Media, Alcohol and Nutrition, Bystander Intervention and the popular De-Stress Fest.
  • SAMs took part in a reading program at St. Mike's in Loretto to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday.
  • 10th Annual Sheetz Sports 4 Kids Day sets a new record with over 325 kids, Pre-K through sixth grade, in attendance.
  • SAAC, SAMs and Flash Focus members assisted with the Boys Only Leadership Development (BOLD) and Girls Only Leadership Development (GOLD) programs at Jackson Elementary.
  • SAAC, SAMs and Flash Focus members attend the APPLE Conference, sponsored by the NCAA and the Gordie Center for Substance Abuse Preventation at the University of Virginia. The student-athletes who attended included: Allison LaDuke (Women's Soccer), Ethel Santai (Softball), Brandon Taylor (Football) and Alex Woicehovich (Football).
