Vanessa Abel joined the Saint Francis coaching staff prior to the 2016-17 season. Prior to joining the Red Flash staff, Abel played three seasons overseas spending seasons in Germany, Sweden and Romania. Abel enjoyed a successful European career being named a single-game MVP in both the German and Swedish leagues. Last season, Abel helped lead Alba Iulia to the Central European Women’s Basketball League title and led the team in assists.
Prior to her European career, Abel played four seasons at Duquesne. She was a part of the most successful class in Dukes’ history and was named 2nd team All-Atlantic-10 as well as A-10 all-defense. Abel graduated with a degree in criminal justice and psychology and earned her Master’s in concentrated leadership from Duquesne.
