Gonner enters his first season as head coach of the Saint Francis women's bowling team after serving as the head men's and women's bowling coach at Clarke University in Dubuque, Ia.
"We are excited to announce that Andrew Gonner will be our new head bowling coach," said head coach Susan Robinson-Fruchtl. Andrew's experience of coaching two programs at Clarke University will serve him well as he focuses on coaching and recruiting for our very successful program here at SFU. We believe he is a great fit for SFU and for our student-athletes. It was important for us to hire a new coach that will continue to mentor and develop our current student-athletes as well as grow our program through recruiting. We are excited for Andrew to become a member of the Red Flash family!"
Under Gonner's leadership the Pride won the V-Hawk Invite Women's Title in 2015-16, the Crusader Open Women's Title in 2016-17 and was the men's and women's runner-up at the V-Hawk Invite during the 2017-18 season. The women's program made an NAIA Nationals Appearance in 2015-16.
Prior to coaching at Clarke, Gonner was the head bowling coach at Iowa City High School where he was a candidate for the High School Women's Coach of the Year. His women's team held the top four pinfall totals in school history and the men's team held two of the top 10 pinfall totals in school history.
Gonner inherits a team fresh off its second NEC title in program history and first trip to the NCAA Finals. The Red Flash are expected to return 11 bowlers from that team including three of the top five bowlers from a season ago.
