Red Flash Women’s Volleyball Falls Short in Comeback Bid Against Duquesne

LORETTO, Pa. (Oct. 9, 2007) – The Saint Francis women's volleyball team came back from a 2-0 deficit, but ultimately dropped Game 5 in a 3-2 loss against Duquesne before a rowdy crowd of 307 at DeGol Arena on Tuesday night.

 

Junior Kristin Buter (Bowie, MD/Bowie) (Bowie, Md. / Bowie) led the Red Flash with 17 kills, 3 service aces, 14 digs, 7 blocks and 23.5 points in the 22-30, 26-30, 30-25, 30-20, 10-15 loss.

 

The Dukes' Jenni Gross led all players with 19 kills and 24.5 points, while freshman Amy Palko had a match-high 19 digs. Palko is the younger sister of former Saint Francis Academic All-American football player Luke Palko, who is now a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers' Player Personnel Department.

 

Sophomore Rikki Myers (Noblesville, IN/Westfield) (Noblesville, Ind. / Westfield) had a match-high 53 assists, which is also a career high. Sophomore Shirley Miller (Fairless Hills, PA/Pennsbury) (Fairless Hills, Pa. / Pennsbury) had 14 kills, 3 aces and 9 digs, and junior Keshia Gibbs (Dumfries, Va. / Forest Park) contributed 13 kills and 7 blocks.

 

The Red Flash won the battle at the net with 16.0 team blocks against just 7.0. They also had an advantage in hitting percentage, .189-.177.

 

Saint Francis (5-16) will open Northeast Conference play this weekend at St. Francis-NY on Saturday, before battling NJIT in non-conference action on Sunday.
