Red Flash Men’s Soccer Team Falls Just Short in NEC Championship Match

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (Nov. 18, 2007) – Andrew Cooper's goal at 37 minutes, 23 seconds held up as the second-seeded Saint Francis men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 defeat against No. 3 Central Connecticut State in Sunday's Northeast Conference championship match at the Great Lawn.

Christopher Brown chipped a ball into the 18-yard box, and Cooper was able to get a leg on it to put it into the net.

The Red Flash outshot the Blue Devils 14-10 in game and had several good opportunities, but Paul Armstrong stopped six shots to give CCSU the win, and the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

Saint Francis finished the season 9-9-2 on its way to its fourth straight .500-or-better season. The Red Flash advanced to the NEC championship match for the second straight season.

SFU junior goalkeeper Brad Williams (San Lorenzo, CA/Arroyo) (San Lorenzo, Calif. / Arroyo) made four saves in the match.
