Flash Women’s Volleyball Suffers Home Opening Setback Versus Navy

LORETTO, Pa. (Sept. 11, 2007) – The Saint Francis women's volleyball team stayed close, but couldn't get over the hump in a 3-0 setback against Navy in its home opener on Tuesday night at DeGol Arena.

 

The Midshipmen came away with the 30-25, 30-19, 30-23 win behind 13 kills from both Jessie Sims and Rachel Dougherty.

 

Sophomore Shirley Miller (Fairless Hills, PA/Pennsbury) (Fairless Hills, Pa. / Pennsbury) led the Red Flash with 10.0 points and 9 kills to go along with 5 digs. Junior Kristin Buter (Bowie, MD/Bowie) (Bowie, Md. / Bowie) added 5 kills and 10 digs, and junior Keshia Gibbs (Dumfries, Va. / Forest Park) pitched in with 7 kills. Sophomore Rikki Myers (Noblesville, IN/Westfield) (Noblesville, Ind. / Westfield) added a team-high 19 assists.

 

SFU (1-7) will return to the court at the Bucknell Tournament this Friday and Saturday. The Red Flash will face Stony Brook at 6 p.m. on Friday before facing Radford and Bucknell at 10 a.m. and Noon, respectively, on Saturday.
