DAYTON, Ohio (Sept. 2, 2007) – The Saint Francis men's soccer team outshot Dayton 13-4, but came away on the short end of a 2-1 loss on Sunday afternoon, the final day of the Courtyard By Marriott Flyer Classic, hosted by the University of Dayton.
The Red Flash fell behind 2-0 after 59 minutes of play, but pulled within one at 84:00 when junior Andrew Stephens (Coppell, TX/Coppell) (Coppell, Texas / Coppell). Senior Jeremy Tice (Litteton, CO/Chatfield) (Littleton, Colo. / Chatfield) received an assist on the play. But the Flyers held off the SFU attack to secure the win.
The Red Flash fell to 0-2 on the young season after a pair of one-goal losses. They'll try to redeem themselves next weekend when they travel to Denver, Colo., to play the University of Denver and the Air Force Academy.
Alex Torda put the Flyers on the board with his first goal of the season in the eighth minute, while Simeon Zaprianov gave them a 2-0 lead at 58:47.
Tice was named to the all-tournament team for his efforts in scoring a goal and assisting on another this weekend.
