Red Flash Women’s Volleyball Earns First Win at Oakland Tournament

ROCHESTER, Mich. (Sept. 8, 2007) – Junior Keshia Gibbs (Dumfries, Va. / Forest Park) posted a season-high 9 kills and 8 blocks to lead the Saint Francis women's volleyball team to its first win of the season, 3-0, against La Salle at the Oakland University Tournament on Saturday.

The Red Flash defeated the Explorers 32-30, 32-30, 30-28 in a nail-biter of a three-game match. Sophomore Shirley Miller (Fairless Hills, PA/Pennsbury) (Fairless Hills, Pa. / Pennsbury) had a career high 10 kills and 10 digs, junior Kristin Buter (Bowie, MD/Bowie) (Bowie, Md. / Bowie) added 9 kills, 2 service aces and 2 blocks. Sophomore Rikki Myers (Noblesville, IN/Westfield) (Noblesville, Ind. / Westfield) dished out 31 assists.

Buter was named to the All-Oakland University Tournament Team for her efforts.

Earlier in the day, Saint Francis suffered a 30-19, 30-18, 30-23 setback against tournament-host Oakland. The Red Flash stand at 1-6 on the young season, and will hold their home-opener against Navy at 6 p.m. on Tuesday night, at DeGol Arena.

In the Oakland match, Buter had 10 kills, 2 service aces, 9 digs and a block. Freshman Alexa Ebert (Titusville, PA/Titusville) (Titusville, Pa. / Titusville) posted 22 assists.
