EMMITTSBURG, Md. (Oct. 12, 2008) – Kyle Patrick's goal in the 66th minute stood up as the Saint Francis men's soccer team suffered a tough 1-0 defeat at Mount St. Mary's on Sunday afternoon.
Senior Brad Williams (San Lorenzo, CA/Arroyo) (San Lorenzo, Calif. / Arroyo) stopped four shots and sophomore Patrick Fleming (Dunedin, New Zealand/Bayfield) (Dunedin, New Zealand / Bayfield) recorded three shots, but the Red Flash dropped to 0-2 in the NEC for the first time since 2002.
Erin Mullins tabbed the ball to Alex Kem, who pushed the ball ahead to Patrick as the freshman headed the ball into the back of the left netting for his third goal of the season at 65:49. The Mount improved to 2-0 in the NEC for the first time since 2005.
The Red Flash had their best chance to score in the first half when Fleming had a shot blocked in the stomach by Ty Fenstermacher in the 35th minute.
Saint Francis also had a barrage of shots turned away by Mount goalkeeper Chris Davis in a span of 30 seconds in the 61st minute. Tyler Hibbs (St. Catherine, Canada/Governor Simcoe) (St. Catherine, Canada / Governor Simcoe), Owen Gombami (Pumula North Bulawayo, Simbabwe/Mzilikazi) (Pumula North Bulawayo, Zimbabwe / Mzilikazi) and Fleming each had scoring chances turned away by three diving saves.
Mount St. Mary's had a 12-7 edge in shots, while holding an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks. The Red Flash committed 12 fouls in the match against seven for the Mount.
