Williams Set School Shutout Record in Scoreless Tie at Sacred Heart

LORETTO, Pa. (Oct. 26, 2008) – Senior Brad Williams (San Lorenzo, CA/Arroyo) (San Lorenzo, Calif. / Arroyo) stopped four shots in a record-breaking performance, but the Saint Francis men's soccer team had to settle for a scoreless double overtime tie at Sacred Heart on Sunday afternoon.

Williams' four saves gave him his first shutout of the season and 16th of his career, breaking the record of 15 by former teammate Bobby Pipech.

The Pioneers held a slight advantage in shots (12-11) and corner kicks (7-5), while the Red Flash were whistled for 18 fouls compared to 10 for Sacred Heart. SFU were called for 11 fouls in the second half when the Pioneers were called for two.

Sophomore Patrick Fleming (Dunedin, New Zealand/Bayfield) (Dunedin, New Zealand / Bayfield) had a team-high two shots in the game, while junior Daniel Moirs (Christchurch, New Zealand / Shirley Boys) and sophomore Owen Gombami (Pumula North Bulawayo, Simbabwe/Mzilikazi) (Pumula North Bulawayo, Zimbabwe / Mzilikazi) recorded the only two shots that were stopped by Sacred Heart goalkeeper Matt Jones.

Saint Francis returns home for a pair of tough NEC contests next weekend. The Red Flash will play host to CCSU on Friday before entertaining Quinnipiac on Sunday.
