BUTER AND GIBBS SPARK WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL IN TWO SUNDAY HOME WINS

LORETTO, Pa. (Oct. 5, 2008) – Senior Kristin Buter (Bowie, MD/Bowie) (Bowie, Md. / Bowie) hit .418 on the day and senior Keshia Gibbs (Dumfries, VA/Forest Park) (Dumfries, Va. / Forest Park) hit .312 with 12 blocks to lead the Saint Francis women's volleyball team to 3-0 and 3-2 victories over St. Francis-NY and Bryant, respectively, on Sunday at DeGol Arena.

The Red Flash snapped a six-match losing streak with the 25-14, 25-15, 25-9 win over the Terriers in the day's first match. Saint Francis hit .369 as a team, put away eight service aces and had 9.5 team blocks.

In the second match against Bryant, SFU rallied from an early 1-0 hole to beat the Bulldogs 20-25, 25-2, 25-21, 21-25, 15-12. The Red Flash hit .230 and out-blocked Bryant 16.0 to 5.5.

Buter and Gibbs paced Saint Francis with strong play in both matches.

Buter hit .438 with seven kills, two aces and nine digs against the Terriers, while Gibbs had a match-high 11 kills and five blocks. Junior Shirley Miller (Fairless Hills, PA/Pennsbury) (Fairless Hills, Pa. / Pennsbury) had 10 kills, eight digs and three blocks, senior Kayla Greenwalt (Colorado Springs, CO/Widefield) (Colorado Springs, Colo. / Widefield) contributed five kills and a .625 hitting percentage on eight swings, sophomore Rachel Capizzi (Saint Louis, Mo./Mehlville) (Saint Louis, Mo. / Mehlville) added three kills, a .375 hitting percentage, four aces and six blocks, and junior setter Rikki Myers (Noblesville, IN/Westfield) (Noblesville, Ind. / Westfield) dished out 31 assists.

The win over St. Francis-NY was a non-conference tilt between a pair of Northeast Conference teams. SFU will travel to Brooklyn Heights, N.Y. to battle the Terriers in a league match on Oct. 25.

Buter broke out with a career-high 24 kills against the Bulldogs, putting her in a tie for fifth-place on the school's single match list. She also hit .412 with 15 digs and five blocks in the match. Buter's previous career high for kills was 21, which she accomplished on three different occasions.
