LORETTO, Pa. (Nov. 15, 2008) – The Saint Francis women's volleyball team played strong sets, but it wasn't enough as they fell to Northeast Conference foe Central Connecticut State 3-1 on Saturday evening at DeGol Arena. The Blue Devils took the first, second and third sets by scores of 25-19, 25-23 and 25-18, respectively. SFU took the third set 25-16.
The Flash will hold their annual Senior Day celebration on Sunday when they host Quinnipiac at 2 PM in DeGol Arena.
Keshia Gibbs (Dumfries, VA/Forest Park) (Dumfries, Va./Forest Park) led the way for the Red Flash with 12 kills on .286 hitting. Kristin Buter (Bowie, MD/Bowie) (Bowie, Md./Bowie) also had 11 kills for the Flash and a team-leading 22. Gibbs and teammate Kayla Greenwalt (Colorado Springs, CO/Widefield) (Colorado Springs, Colo./Widefield) each had 4 blocks in the match.
Rikki Myers (Noblesville, IN/Westfield) (Noblesville, Ind./Westfield) chipped in with 40 assists, and Christine Breisch (Edwardsburgh, Mich./Edwardsburgh) (Edwardsburg, Mich./Edwardsburg) had the team's 2 service aces.
CCSU's Amanda Bayer led all players with 44 assists, and also had a service ace. Amanda Olmstead had 2 service aces for the Blue Devils.
The Red Flash combined for 44 kills on .119 hitting, and the Blue Devils finished with 53 kills on .178 hitting.
"We fought hard tonight," said first year head coach Chuck Mullen. "We just came up short. We made too many mistakes at key times, and had a hard time overcoming that. I'm still proud of the way we worked. Unfortunately, it just wasn't enough."
