Flash Softball Team Splits On First Day Of 2008 Season

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Feb. 22, 2008) – Senior Richele Hall (Beaver Falls, Pa. / Riverside) had a solo home run and scored two runs to help lead the Saint Francis softball team to a 4-3 victory over Akron in the team's second game of the season on Friday at the Chattanooga Challenge.

The Red Flash dropped their season opener earlier in the day, an 8-0 setback against East Tennessee State.

Sophomore Jerrica Smith (Breezewood, Pa. / Everett) tossed a complete game in the win over the Zips. She gave up three runs and scattered 12 hits. Junior Janelle McCoy (New Paris, Pa. / Chestnut Ridge) had a double and two RBIs to help SFU.

Junior Hilary McNelis (Tyrone, Pa. / Tyrone) collected Saint Francis' only hit, a single, in the day's first game against East Tennessee State. Junior Laura Caldwell (Bellefonte, Pa. / Bellefonte) struck out two, but gave up all eight runs in a five-inning game.

The Red Flash will play Eastern Kentucky at 2:15 p.m. on Saturday, while their other contest against Bradley was canceled. Ball State and Bowling Green are on the slate for Sunday's contests.
