LORETTTO, Pa. (Sept. 10, 2008) – The Saint Francis women's volleyball team beat Coppin State in straight sets in the Flash's home opener on Wednesday at DeGol Arena.
The Red Flash are now 2-3 in home openers since 2004. They also move to 2-7 on the season.
The team is set to travel to the Bucknell tournament, where they will play the host team on September 12 at 8 PM in Lewisburg.
After beating the Eagles 25-15 in the first set, the Flash went on to win the next two by scores of 25-16 and 15-14.
Outside hitter
Kristin Buter (Bowie, MD/Bowie) (Bowie, Md./Bowie) led the team with 14 kills for an attacking percentage of .333. She is currently fifth in the Northeast Conference in kills, averaging 3.08 per game for a total of 80. Buter also had 5 service aces and 4 digs. Sophomore
Lindsay Malloy (Gallitzin, Pa./Penn Cambria) (Gallitzin, Pa./Penn Cambria) chipped in with 5 service aces as well.
Junior
Rikki Myers (Noblesville, IN/Westfield) (Noblesville, Ind./Westfield) had a team-leading 25 assists and sits in fourth place in the NEC with 134 total. She also had an attacking percentage of .667.
Lauren Lacey led the Eagles with 12 assists and 6 digs, while Brittany Arvin had 6 kills and 6 digs.
The Flash totaled 1 team block, while Coppin State had 2.
Shirley Miller (Fairless Hills, PA/Pennsbury) (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury) and
Keshia Gibbs (Dumfries, VA/Forest Park) (Dumfries, Va./Forest Park) each had a block assist.
