SFU Men’s Soccer Suffers Second Straight Defeat Against Another National Power

MORGANTOWN, W.V. (Sept. 13, 2008) – The Saint Francis men's soccer team took a national power from a top conference to the brink for the second straight contest, but came away with another 1-0 loss at Big East power West Virginia on Saturday night.

 Zach Johnson was credited with the game-winner at 94 minutes, 5 seconds to give the Mountaineers a golden goal 1-0 win in overtime. Johnson attempted a cross, and his pass went off the back of a Red Flash defender into the net.

 The Red Flash fell to 0-4-1 on the season, but three of their losses have come against teams from The Big East and The Big Ten. Saint Francis dropped a 1-0 match on Wednesday at Penn State, another match in which in took the Nittany Lions scoreless deep into the second half.

 West Virginia outshot the Red Flash 22-2 in the contest, but couldn't get past sophomore goalkeeper Darius Motazed (North Vancouver, Canada/Sentinel Secondary) (North Vancouver, Canada / Sentinel Secondary) through the first 90-plus minutes. Motazed made three saves in the game.

 Sophomore Brent Brockman (Dillsburg, PA/Northern York) (Dillsburg, Pa. / Northern York) recorded both shots for SFU, including one on goal.

 Saint Francis will travel to Bowling Green next weekend where it will battle IPFW at 2 p.m. on Saturday before taking on the Falcons at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
