SFU Splits With FDU and Canisius on Second Day at Bucknell Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. (Sept. 13, 2008) – Three players had double figures in kills and junior Rikki Myers (Noblesville, IN/Westfield) (Noblesville, Ind. / Westfield) dished out 48 assists to lead the Saint Francis women's volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over Canisius on Saturday afternoon at the Bucknell Invitational.

 

Junior Shirley Miller (Fairless Hills, PA/Pennsbury) (Fairless Hills, Pa. / Pennsbury) had a match-high 17 kills to go with 12 digs and 2 blocks, senior Kristin Buter (Bowie, MD/Bowie) (Bowie, Md. / Bowie) added 14 kills, 3 aces, 14 digs and 4 blocks, and senior Keshia Gibbs (Dumfries, VA/Forest Park) (Dumfries, Va. / Forest Park) pitched in with 6 blocks and 13 kills on a .346 hitting percentage in the 25-21, 25-20, 24-26, 25-21 win.

 

Earlier in the day, the Red Flash dropped a 3-1 decision against Northeast Conference foe Fairleigh Dickinson in a non-league contest. The Knights won the match 23-25, 25-16, 28-26, 25-20. Miller had 15 kills, 4 aces and 10 digs, while Buter had 15 kills, 7 digs and 3 blocks. Myers dished out 34 assists.

 

Saint Francis moved its season record to 4-8 on the season after winning three of its last four matches, including a 2-1 mark this weekend at the Bucknell invitational. Miller was named to the all-tournament team with a great effort at the invitational.

 

The Red Flash will return to action next weekend when they play host to the Red Flash Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
