SFU Women’s Volleyball Team Drops Seventh Straight at Patriot Invitational

FAIRFAX, Va. (Sept. 6, 2008) – The Saint Francis women's volleyball team completed play at the Patriot Invitational on Saturday with a pair of tough 3-0 losses against New Mexico and La Salle, respectively.

 

The Red Flash fell to 1-7 on the season with the losses.

 

Junior Kristin Buter (Bowie, MD/Bowie) (Bowie, Md. / Bowie) led the Red Flash with 7 kills and an ace in the 25-15, 25-11, 25-15 loss versus unbeaten New Mexico. Sophomore Lindsay Mallow (Gallitzin, Pa. / Penn Cambria) hit .200 with 6 kills, 5 digs and a block, and junior Rikki Myers (Noblesville, IN/Westfield) (Noblesville, Ind. / Westfield) tallied 10 assists.

 

Game 1 was close midway through when Buter recorded a kill to make it 15-13. However, New Mexico went on a 10-2 run to finish the game with a 25-15 victory.

 

SFU led 7-3 in Game 2, but a 7-1 run put NM up 10-8 before it went on another 15-3 run to close it out at 25-11.

 

New Mexico hit .545 in Game 3 to take control from the outset in another 25-15 win to clinch the match.

 

Buter and junior Shirley Miller (Fairless Hills, PA/Pennsbury) (Fairless Hills, Pa. / Pennsburg) led the way with 9 kills each in the day's second match against La Salle, which resulted in a 9-25, 23-25, 22-25 defeat. Buter also had an ace, 3 digs and a block, and Miller added an ace and 12 digs. Malloy had 8 kills, 2 aces and 8 digs, and Myers dished out 29 assists.

 

The Red Flash will return to action with their home opener at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night, at DeGol Arena, against Coppin State.
