Red Flash Drop Keystone Clash With Robert Morris, Fall 3-1

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (Oct. 13, 2010) - The Saint Francis women's volleyball team earned a split through two sets but were unable to overcome a well-rounded Robert Morris team, with the Red Flash falling to the Colonials 3-1 (18-25, 25-15, 20-25, 15-25) in Moon Township.

The Red Flash fall to 4-16 overall, with a 2-5 record in the Northeast Conference.  The Colonials improve to 8-14 overall, with a 5-2 record in the NEC.

The Red Flash were led by senior Lindsay Malloy (Gallitzin, Pa./Penn Cambria) (Gallitzin, Pa./Penn Cambria), who posted a match-high 14 kills along with 10 digs.  In fact, the top three attackers for the Red Flash - Malloy, Leeanne Haus (Mars, Pa./North Allegheny) (Mars, Pa./Wexford), and Amanda Zahumensky (Sarver, Pa./Freeport Area) (Sarver, Pa./Freeport) - recorded more kills than Lindsey Monger and Charla Drabant, who tied for the RMU lead with nine kills apiece.  However, the Colonials hit a sharp .259 over the course of the match, avoiding mistakes and spreading the wealth around the offense for the win.

In the first set, the Red Flash were able to overcome an early 10-3 deficit, hitting a very good .281 in the opening stanza to tie the score at 16-16 on a Malloy service ace.  However, the overall firepower of the Colonials was simply too much; Robert Morris hit a blistering .522 in the first set to take it 25-18.

The Red Flash responded in the second with one of their best offense sets of the season, firing away at a .429 clip while holding the Colonials to just a .080 hitting percentage.  After the Colonials briefly tied the score at 2-2, the Red Flash never again trailed.  Once the Red Flash made the score 11-4 on a Lauren Wingard (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) (York, Pa./Dallastown) kill, they would not let the Colonials get closer than to within five points, and ultimately took the set 25-15 on a Zahumensky kill.

RMU would come back to take the final two sets, trailing just briefly in each.  The Colonials recorded 10 total blocks over the final two sets and forced 20 SFU errors in winning the final stanzas 25-20 and 25-15, respectively.

The Red Flash had three players in double-digit kills - Malloy (14), Haus (12), and Zahumensky (11).  Zahumensky also had the match-high with 16 digs.  Kierstin Kiser (Clarion, Pa./Clarion) (Clarion, Pa./Clarion) had 44 assists.  Chrissy Breisch (Edwardsburg, Mich./Edwardsburg) had 13 digs.
