LORETTO, Pa. (Oct.22, 2010) – After falling into an early two-set hole, the Saint Francis University women's volleyball rallied convincingly to take the third, but eventually succumbed to Long Island, 3-1 (25-23, 25-21, 16-25, 25-16) on Friday evening at DeGol Arena.
After dropping sets one and two by a combined six points, the Red Flash quickly overcame a 1-0 deficit in the third set and never looked back. Senior opposite hitter
Lindsay Malloy (Gallitzin, Pa./Penn Cambria) (Gallitzin, Pa./Penn Cambria) led the offense in the set, firing four of her 11 kills on the evening.
LIU quickly regained form, however, jumping out to a 9-1 lead to start the fourth set and holding on to claim its second 3-1 victory of the season over the Red Flash.
In addition to Malloy, sophomores
Lauren Wingard (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) and Lizzy Williams (North Bend, Ohio/Saint Ursula) each reached double-digit kill totals with 12 and 10, respectively.
Malloy also paced the SFU defensive effort, coming up with 15 digs and helping out on five blocks.
Setter Keirsten Kiser (Clarion, Pa./Clarion) racked up 39 assists on the night.
Saint Francis (5-17; 3-6 NEC) returns to action tomorrow when it welcomes St. Francis College for a 2 p.m. tilt in Loretto.
