After Youngstown State scored a run in the bottom of the second, sophomore Courtney Francis (Jefferson, Ohio/Jefferson Area) (Jefferson, Ohio / Jefferson Area) led off the third inning with a walk, and came across to make it 2-1 with an RBI single by Miller.

Aulbach bunted for a single in the fourth inning, and later scored on a double steal to make it 3-1.

The Penguins would hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut the lead to 4-3, but Gurrola buckled down to get the last two outs for her first career victory. She gave up two earned runs on three hits, struck out two and walked one in 7.0 innings.
