Barbara Maros de Carvalho (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Sagrado Coraco de Jesus) (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Sagrado Coraco de Jesus) tallied three assists as the Saint Francis University women's soccer team lifted the lid on its 2010 campaign with a solid, 3-1, win over Duquesne University on Friday afternoon at the Stoke Soccer Complex.
McKibben picked up right where she left off a year ago, when she scored two goals in three games before suffering a year-ending injury, by notching a pair of goals in the first 25 minutes of the season.
Her first score came in the 15th minute when a hustling Maros de Carvalho saved a ball from crossing the goal line then dished it to McKibben who fought off a waiting Dukes defender before hitting pay dirt.
Maros de Carvalho and sophomore defender Jennifer Brennan (Northport, N.Y./Northport) (Northport, N.Y./Northport) helped out on McKibben's second goal.
Senior midfielder Haleigh Dunyon (Long Beach, Calif./Woodrow Wilson) (Long Beach, Calif./Woodrow Wilson) scored SFU's final goal less than 10 minutes into the second half to put Duquesne away for good. For the second consecutive tally, Brennan and Maros de Carvalho earned assists.
Sophomore Briana Butcher (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) earned the win in her first collegiate start in goal, making three saves on the afternoon.
Saint Francis, which evened the all-time series with the Dukes at 6-6-1, outshot Duquesne 9-to-7.
The Red Flash return to action on Sunday when they welcome Youngstown State for a 3 p.m. match at the Stokes Soccer Complex.
