LORETTO, Pa. (August 22, 2010) – After clinging to a precarious one-goal lead at the intermission, the Saint Francis University women's soccer team poured on the offense in the second half, scoring a pair of goals on 13 shots, en route to an impressive, 3-0, victory over Youngstown State University.

With Sunday's win at the Stokes Soccer Complex, the Red Flash improved to 2-0 on the young season, while the Penguins fell to 1-1.

Junior midfielder Traci Flick (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) staked the Flash to an early, 1-0, lead in the game's 23rd minute on a ball served up by senior Chelsea Traurig (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township).

After outshooting the Penguins 6-to-4 in the opening period, the Red Flash offense peppered 13 shots on the visitors in the second half to YSU's four.

Despite the huge differential in shots, Saint Francs enjoyed little margin for error until sophomore Tesa McKibben (Cogan Station, Pa./Montoursville) (Cogan Station, Pa./Montoursville) tallied her third goal of the weekend at the 81:33 mark. Freshman Barbara Maros de Carvalho (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Sagrado Coraco de Jesus) (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Sagrado Coraco de Jesus) notched her fourth assist of the season on the score.

It didn't take long for the speedy Maros de Carvalho to spark the offense once again.

Under five minutes later, Flick fed the ball to Maros de Carvalho who tapped it to Haleigh Dunyon (Long Beach, Calif./Woodrow Wilson) (Long Beach, Calif./Woodrow Wilson) who, in turn, scored SFU's third and final goal of the match.

With the win, goalkeeper Briana Butcher (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) earned the second win of her career, in addition to her first shutout at the collegiate level. Butcher made three saves on the afternoon.

Already the winningest coach in program history, Saint Francis' Brenda van Stralen tallied her 49th victory as a head coach.

The Red Flash return to action on Friday when they visit Canisius at 7 p.m. for their first road match of the season.
