Canisius scores late to hand Flash first setback

BUFFALO, N.Y. (August 27, 2010) – Despite firing 14 shots, the Saint Francis University women's soccer team couldn't break onto the scoreboard as they fell, 1-0, in overtime to Canisius on Friday evening.

The Griffins' Katie Griffin booted the game-winner in the 88th minutes, spoiling a four-save outing by Red Flash goalkeeper Brianna Butcher (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) (East Longmeadow, Mass/East Longmeadow). Butcher – and the Flash – fell to 2-1 on the season with the setback.

Sophomore Tesa McKibben (Cogan Station, Pa./Montoursville) (Cogan Station, Pa./Montoursville) led the Red Flash with five shots – three of which were on goal.

In all, SFU put six shots on goal.

Canisius' Leslie Ivinac earned the win with 53 minutes of work.

Canisus raised its record to 1-1 with the triumph.

Saint Francis returns to action on Sunday when they visit Georgetown at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
